How do I use a fire blanket on a burning vehicle?
- Place the fire blanket on the ground. Center it in front of or behind the car and roll it out.
- Two people should grab each their handle and safely pull the fire blanket over the car in one continuous movement.
- makre sure the fire blanket is tight all the way to the ground and leave it on.
- wait for firefighters to assess the sitution further.
Yes, although the Car Standard blanket weighs around 28 kg, it's designed to be deployed by two people using integrated handles. The smartbag with shoulder straps and hand grips makes lifting and handling more practical.
Can the fire blanket be reused?
- Yes - up to 30 times for products like the Car Pro X, depending on damage. Always inspect for holes and use the repair kit if needed.
What sizes are available?
- From small lithium fire blankets (1.8x1.8m) to large car (6x8m) and XL (7.5x10m) variants. See the product page for dimensions.
Can I use Bridgehill fire blanket on lithium battery fires?
Yes. Use a lithium fire blanket and optionally cover it with a larger fir eblanket to better isolate fumes.
To isolate smoke and gases, apply a second layer using:
- Pallet Blanket: 5x5 m
- Forklift Blanket: 7x7 m
- Car Standard Blanket: 6x8 m
Are there any safety precautions?
- Yes. Always wear professional gear (SCBA) when reusing a fire blanket. Ensure the blanket is dry before placing it back in the Smartbag.
Does it release toxic fumes?
- No, it contains the smoke and gases from the fire. However, lithium batteries can still emit toxic substances - ventilate the area and contact emergency professionals immediatly.
Do I need to clean the fire balnket after use?
- No cleaning is needed if it’s dry. Use silicon grease on the Smartbag zipper to maintain airtight storage.
Can you lift the blanket?
- Yes, althouch the Car Standard blanket weighs around 28 kg, it's designed to be deployed by two people using integrated handles. The smartbag with shoulder straps and hand grips makes lifting and handling more practical.
How to remove the fire blanket from the car?
- After use, only trained personnel wearing SCBA and protective equipment should remove the blanket. Ensure it’s cooled and completely dry before packing into the bag again.
Can you use water with the blanket?
- Bridgehill blankets are designed to isolate the fire, not extinguish it with water. Water is not required and could be unsafe, especially for lithium battery fires.
At high temperatures, water can quickly evaporate and create steam pressure under the blanket. This may lift the blanket and allow oxygen back into the fire.
When water contacts burning lithium-ion batteries (e.g., in EVs), it may cause unpredictable chemical reactions and explosive steam release.
What is the shelf life?
- Bridgehill fire blankets have a 10-year shelf life, provided they’re stored properly in their smartbag.
How many times can you use the fire blanket?
- Bridgehill’s professional blankets like the Car Pro X can be reused up to 30 times if not structurally compromised. Repair kits are included for minor damage.
Can you use car fire blankets on battery fires?
- Yes, they are effective on both fossil fuel and electric/hybrid vehicles, including battery fires. The fire blankets isolate thermal runaway and toxic gases.
How to dispose the fire blanket?
- Leave final assessment to professionals. Disposal should follow local hazardous waste regulations due to potential contamination after use.
What are the different colors on the handles for?
- Red and yellow handles are used for visibility and orientation, helping users quickly position and pull the blanket correctly.
What is the Center marking for?
- A red center stripe and markings on both sides makes it easier to center and deploy the blanket accurately over the vehicle.
Is it safe to store the fire blanket after use?
- Only if it's completely dry and handled with SCBA protection. Following instructions ensures no cleaning is needed, just proper drying.
When do I know when I might need a new Pro X fire blanket?
- If the fire blanket has structural damage, or the maximum reuses (30) have been reached, it should be replaced. Also, if it’s past the 10-year shelf life, replacement is recommended.
What is the short- and long-term time of each blanket?
- Car Standard: Short-term ± 2900°F / 1600°C Long-term ± 1400°F / 800°C
- Car Pro X: Short-term ± 4532°F / 2500°C Long-term ± 2732°F / 1500°C

Does it matter which way I put on the fire blanket?
- No, the fire blanket can be used on both sides. However, it must lie tightly against the ground on all sides to effectively block the oxygen supply. Markings and handles are included to ensure proper orientation and easier handling.
How often does an EV burn?
- Electric vehicle fires are not very common, but when they do happen, the consequences are significant. Thermal runaway in lithium batteries can lead to intense, long-lasting fires that are difficult to extinguish and can release toxic smoke and gases. That’s why preparedness is critical, especially in areas like parking garages, charging stations, and tunnels—where a single incident can escalate quickly.
Bridgehill fire blankets are designed to contain and isolate these types of fires effectively, reducing the risk to people, property, and the environment.
